History

2008-09: crossed the pond in order to play with Indiana Ice of the USHL and had an excellent rookie season, being named in the All-Rookie team, skating in the All Star game and helping the Ice capturing the Clark Cup. Because of his reporting to North America he didn't play with team Russia internationally. At the end of the season he was first overall in the CHL Import Draft, being picked up by the St. John Sea Dogs.

2009-10: he started the season skating at the Ivan Hlinka tournament, scoring three points in four games. Then he had a very good rookie season in the Q with the Sea Dogs, with 60 points in 65 regular season games and 19 in 21 in the playoffs. He was voted into the first All-Rookie team and led all QMJHL rookies in assists (45). He didn't make the cut for the WJC and couldn't skate at the U18 because of his team's playoffs.

Talent Analysis

Stanislav Galiev is a talented playmaking winger who plays a classic Russian style. He prefers passing over shooting and he definitely knows how to share the puck with his line mates. Having played two years in North America is also already adapted to the small ice surface. Galiev is a very creative player and he uses his excellent decision making in order to get a good shot, an effective pass or just to stickhandle around to make things happen a moment later. He is also a very good skating with an excellent balance, and thus it's hard to knock him off the puck. His biggest problem is his lack of finishing skills, he shoots the puck a lot but isn't a premier goalscorer. He needs to work on his shot accuracy and probably he needs to shoot a bit less. He also has to work on his defensive game even if he is a good forechecker.

Future

Considering Galiev's play on the small ice, it's easy to think that he can develop into a regular first line player. That being said, he needs to play a more mature style concerning the shoots selection and the defensive awareness. But he has certainly first line potential.
