History

2008-09: Kitsyn was already a known player across the Ocean as he was thought to be a first round pick due to his dominant play in junior leagues. Time has passed and maybe he didn't play up to this hype, but he had a very good rookie season in the KHL with five goals and played with Team Russia in a number of international tournaments, including the U18s in Fargo where he helped team Russia getting a silver medal with eight points in seven games.

2009-10: Kitsyn didn't replicate his first year's success in the KHL also because of an injury, but he did skate at the WJC and gave three assists in six games. He scored only one goal in the KHL, but he was a very good player for Metallurg Novokuznetsk's junior team in the MHL and was one of the playoff's top performers.

Talent Analysis

Maxim Kitsyn is a talented player with good size, two factors that make him a very valuable prospect. He can use his soft hands to score eye-catching goals as well as park himself in front of the net and score after a rebound, even if he must fight more in the slot and in the corners with such a frame. A very good skater, he has a good acceleration and top speed even if he's not too elegant. He also needs to play harder on defense and to be more active. Unfortunately Kitsyn has a history of inconsistence and he needs to work on this if he wants to be effective in the NHL.

Future

Kitsyn has a big potential due to his technique and frame. But he needs to be more consistent, also throughout the lenght of the whole season. The Russian factor and the inconsistence might make him drop a bit during the selections' day.
