History
2008-09: Spent most of the season with Metallurg Magnitogorsk junior farm team, used as backup goalie for some games but without getting ice time. He was then drafted in the CHL Import Draft by the Tri-City Americans of the WHL.
2009-10: Pechurski had his debut game in the KHL, without much luck, and after a bunch of games with Metallurg's junior team in the newly formed MHL he decided to cross the pond to play for the Americans in the WHL. Then he got an emergency call from the Pens, saving 12 out of 13 shots in his first NHL game.
Talent Analysis
Alexander Pechurski is a hybrid goalie who, just like many other Russian goalies recently came into the NHL spotlight like Semyon Varlamov and Igor Bobkov, relies on his athletic abilities. He is very quick and has great reflexes, but needs to work over technique, glove hand, positioning and stick handling. He improved a lot during his first WHL season, but he needs to work on many aspects of his game.
Future
Alexander Pechurski has a solid potential due to his reflexes and technical abilities, but he needs to get more ice time in order to succeed in the more demanding North American game. He had a successful first NHL game, but he needs to get more of them in order to get used to the different game. He's under contract with Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL up to April 2011.
